Mardi Gras Facts

1. The first Mardi Gras in America was celebrated not in New Orleans, but in Mobile, Alabama, in 1703.

2. Mardi Gras season begins with January 6, the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany (12 days after Christmas), which is the day the three Wise Men came to visit the Christ child.

3. The three colors of Mardi Gras are purple (justice), green (faith), and gold (power).
